Six -meter high monumental sculpture made of Corten steel.

The work, which will be exhibited next to the dikes of Euskalduna and the historical vessels inside, the house of bombs and the iconic carola crane, among other outstanding pieces of the collection of itssmuseum , will become part of a first -order patrimonial set in a privileged place next to the Bilbao estuary

roots of the ocean is a spectacular monumental sculpture, made of steel cut in 2010 by Jesús Lizaso (Barakaldo, 1961). It has a height of six meters with a base of two and represents two anthropomorphic figures in hieratic position that symbolize two sailors holding their rowing.

His exhibition in a public space in Bilbao, highly valued and used by citizens in their leisure time, contributes to the objective shared by the City of Bilbao and ITSASMUSEUM to bring art closer to the greatest possible number of people.

Recognized contemporary artist of singular look and his own language, Jesús Lizaso is considered one of the main referents of current Basque art. He has exhibited in cities such as Bilbao, Madrid, Chicago, Tokyo, Toledo, Estoril, Lisbon and Florence, among others. Since in 2000 a large format sculpture contest won in Basauri, there have been numerous public works of its creation that have been installed in various places. The production of monumental sculpture has allowed the author to experiment and investigate, a constant in his artistic career, both with the dimensions and the modular steel foundry.

Lizaso's artistic production has been widely recognized and, in this sense, among other recognition rewarding a whole trajectory, a creative maturity that coincides with its less conceptual stage, a period marked by the artist's will for focusing on the plastic of matter.

Euskadi has provided great sculptors with a clear identity known as the Basque School of Sculpture to which in addition to Lizaso himself, contemporary artists such as Basterretxea, Chillida, Ibarrola, Mendiburu, Oteiza and Ugarte belong, among other authors. The masterful work of these and other top -level artists has allowed the value and uniqueness of Basque culture to have opened the world occupying a significant place in the international artistic map.
ocean roots of all citizenship.
