In that sense, they help to place since they reveal a position. But Hau also has different meanings in other contexts. The French anthropologist Marcel Mauss collects in essay on the gift (1925) that the Hau is, among the Maori, the spiritual value that is granted to the donated objects. The definition of a museum is historically given from its collection, from the public nature of a fund that belongs to all and that contributes to the production of knowledge and to imagine a community.
This double meaning works as a preamble to a reorganization of the funds from the museum collection that begins in the fifties, with the return of Latin America by Mari Paz Jiménez, Jorge Oteiza, and Nestor Basterretxea, And it reaches to this day, exploring what the theoretician Hal Foster called 'the return of the real.' It does so from a series of elementary movements that activate a narrative always under construction. This presentation brings together more than a hundred works of art, documents and archiving materials to explore the contexts that artists helped to build and from those who worked in the second half of the twentieth century.
